Arakoon is located between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales Mid North Coast. Beaches, Diving and Fishing

From a range of surf beaches to the shallow, sandy stretches of Trial Bay, there's a patch of sand here just right for you! Why not try scuba diving at the world renowned Fish Rock? Anglers consider South West Rocks to be one of the best fishing areas on the Mid North Coast with beach, river or deep-sea fishing.

 

Whale Watching

Peak whale watching season is June through to October when the migrating whales stop to enjoy the warm waters of Trial Bay and Smoky Cape. The Hi Spy viewing machine at the Entertainment Area is the perfect location to see the whales breaching in Trial Bay. Alternatively, head up to Smoky Cape Lighthouse for a 180 degree panoramic views across the Pacific Ocean.

Dining Out

There are several quality restaurants with a choice of fresh local seafood, Chinese, Italian and Thai located in nearby South West Rocks. Most of these restaurants also offer a home delivery service to Sandy Toes Retreat. Within South West Rocks there are two Clubs and one pub providing excellent value family meals including play areas for the kids. The two Clubs run courtesy shuttles during peak times. Nature Walks and Exploration

Don't forget your bush walking shoes! Arakoon offers a range of lovely bush and seaside walks to suit any level of fitness. The more serious bushwalker should try the Lighthouse to Little Bay hike through Hat Head National Park across Big Smoky Mountain. There is also the Monument Hill walk which captures spectacular 270 degree views of Little Bay, Trial Bay Gaol and South West Rocks.

 

There are mountain bike tracks throughout the area or you may prefer to take a 4WD trip to explore Smoky or Gap Beach. A visit to historic Trial Bay Gaol, situated in the Arakoon State Recreation Area is a must! The Country Club offers a range of sporting and entertainment facilities including a golf course, tennis, a swimming pool and lawn bowls, or catch a local band out at the Riverside Tavern.
